SAFEGUARDING
Everyone has the right to feel safe.
Bright Sky Homes CIC is committed to protecting residents and anyone who comes into contact with our service from abuse, neglect, exploitation, discrimination and avoidable harm. You do not need proof to raise a concern. If something does not feel right, tell someone.
What safeguarding can include
A concern may relate to a member of staff, another resident, a visitor, a professional, a family member or someone in the community. It may be current, past or suspected.
Abuse, neglect and exploitation
- Physical, sexual, psychological or emotional abuse
- Domestic abuse, coercive or controlling behaviour
- Financial or material abuse, theft or pressure involving money
- Neglect, self-neglect or a failure to provide necessary support
Other risks and unsafe practice
- Discriminatory abuse, harassment or hate incidents
- Modern slavery, cuckooing, criminal or sexual exploitation
- Organisational abuse, unsafe practice or misuse of power
- Any incident or pattern causing fear, injury, distress, loss or avoidable harm

Do not delay a report
Give the information you have. You do not need every detail and should not investigate or confront anyone yourself.
What to tell us
Share what you know in your own words. The following details are helpful, but do not delay because something is unknown.
- Who you are worried about and where they are, if known
- What happened, or what you saw, heard or were told
- When and where it happened, and who was present
- Any immediate danger, injury or urgent medical need
- Who may be involved and whether another service has been contacted
- How we can contact you, unless you choose not to give your details
Sharing information safely
Do not email identification documents, detailed medical records or other files unless we have asked for them and provided an appropriate way to share them. An anonymous concern will still be considered, although it may limit our ability to ask questions or provide an update.
If someone needs urgent or statutory help
You may contact the police or local authority directly. You do not have to report to Bright Sky Homes first.
Immediate danger or a crime taking place
Non-emergency police assistance
Leicestershire Adult Social Care
Call 0116 305 0004. Monday–Thursday, 8:30 am–5:00 pm; Friday, 8:30 am–4:30 pm.
Adult Social Care Emergency Duty Team
Call 0116 305 0888 during evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
Concern about a child
Call Leicestershire County Council’s First Response Children’s Duty Team on 0116 305 0005. This is a 24-hour line.
If the person is outside Leicestershire, contact the adult or children’s safeguarding service for the local authority where they are.
What happens after you tell us
Our first priority is safety. The response depends on the concern and may involve a statutory service.

We listen and record
We take the concern seriously, record what has been shared and avoid asking the person to repeat unnecessary detail.

We consider immediate safety
We assess whether anyone needs urgent protection, medical help or contact with emergency or statutory services.

The safeguarding lead reviews it
The designated safeguarding lead considers the concern, the person’s wishes and the action required under our procedures.

We act and share proportionately
Relevant services are involved where necessary. We explain what happens next and provide an update where it is appropriate and lawful to do so.
Privacy, consent and concerns about staff
We handle safeguarding information carefully, but we cannot promise secrecy where someone may be at risk.
Confidentiality has limits
We listen to the person’s wishes and seek consent where appropriate. Information may still be shared without consent when this is necessary to protect someone, prevent or detect crime, or meet a legal duty. Only relevant information should be shared.
Concerns about staff or management
Do not confront the person concerned or investigate the matter yourself. Report it through the safeguarding route. If you do not feel able to report to us, contact Adult Social Care or the police directly.
Records and updates
Safeguarding records are restricted to people who need them. We may not be able to share every detail of an investigation or another person’s information, but we will explain the next step where we can.
If you are worried, speak up.
Raise a safeguarding concern even if you are unsure. For dissatisfaction with our service where nobody is at risk, use the Complaints page.
